About Calliber · established 2024

We test AI tools so

you don't waste a month

picking the wrong one.

Calliber is an independent review site for modern AI tools — built for founders, freelancers, and small teams who need straight answers, not marketing pages.

What we do

Plain-English reviews of the tools actually worth your time.

Hands-on, not marketing copy.

Every tool we review gets used on real work — writing drafts, shipping code, running ads, editing video, answering support tickets — for at least a week before we publish a word.

No theoretical reviews, no demo-video recaps.

We write up what broke, what surprised us, what it replaced in our stack, and whether it earned its monthly bill.

Built for builders.

Our readers are founders setting up their first AI stack, freelancers stretching a solo budget, and small teams trying to ship more without hiring.

We write for people who have to choose — not compare.

That means short verdicts, clear pricing, honest scoring, and "what I'd do in your shoes" picks.

How we test

A four-step process, every review.

We don't write about a tool until we've spent a full cycle with it. Here's what that looks like.

01 — SET UP

Buy the plan you'd actually buy.

We pay out of pocket for the plan a founder or freelancer would realistically pick — usually the mid- tier. No comped enterprise seats.

02 — USE IT

Run it against real work for 7+ days.

Real client tasks, real deadlines, real team. Not synthetic benchmarks — the tool has to survive our actual inbox and roadmap.

03 — SCORE IT

Rate against the same 12 criteria.

Pricing, setup friction, output quality, speed, limits, integrations, support, data policy, lock-in risk, value vs alternatives.

04 — WRITE UP

Honest verdict, even when it's awkward.

If the tool is an affiliate partner and we didn't love it, we say so. Every piece has a clear "who this is for / who this isn't for" section.

Principles

Four rules we don't bend.

RULE 01

Never sponsored verdicts.

Brands can buy an ad slot. They cannot buy a score, a ranking, a "best-of" spot, or a single word of the verdict. Period.

RULE 02

Affiliate, fully disclosed.

RULE 03

Update, don't memory-hole.

Tools change weekly. When a review becomes outdated we update it in place with a dated changelog — not a quiet rewrite.

RULE 04

Readers over reach.

We'd rather write one useful 2,000-word review a week than ten shallow listicles chasing Google. If it wouldn't help a friend, we don't publish it.
